Rediff.com gave the film 1 out 5, calling it "catastrophically stupid," and commenting that "a feeble script is built on constant, relentless revelations with artlessly expository dialogues."[19] Subhash K. Jha from NDTV gave the movie 4/5, and mentioned that there "is plenty to celebrate in Baar Baar Dekho, not the least of its virtues being the ability to deliver marital home truths without sermons or soliloquies."[20] Writing for The Hindu, Namrata Joshi commented that the movie features "passionless performances and cardboard characters" that lack depth. "There are no standout performances, no scenes that can pack in an emotional wallop and the conversational dialogue turns banal beyond a point."[21] The Indian Express gave the movie 1.5 out of 5, noting that "Katrina Kaif's limited emoting abilities, Sidharth Malhotra's one-note performance and a banal script" make watching the film once "way more than enough."[22] India Today criticized the performance of the lead actors in the film: "Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif both seem to think they are in the film to make it look good. There's hardly any acting on the part of either. While Katrina's moments of frustration and sorrow invoke the stray laugh from the theatre, Sidharth's neither-here-nor-there Jai hardly makes an impact."[23]
2016 was the year of the biggies. Major leading stars of Bollywood impressed us with their incredible performances and ruled the box-office. There were some movies which we assumed will work wonders and they definitely did while some failed to impress us and did not do well despite promoting it heavily. But there were a few movies, which impressed and moreover surprised us with its content and commendable job by the cast.
This year we saw a bunch of sports-based films, many worked well at the box-office but few couldn't strike the right chord with the audience. Saala Khadoos is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Irudhi Suttru which also starred R Madhavan and debutante Ritika Singh. The movie was critically acclaimed for a different but interesting content. Special mention to the ever charming Madhavan to make a bulky body and making us go weak on our knees. Ritika even went on to gain a Special Mention at the 63rd National Film Awards.
A concept of male homemaker was an unexplored idea in Bollywood. Kareena Kapoor Khan played the perfect role of an ambitious working woman, whereas Arjun Kapoor took his mom as an inspiration who was a housewife. The movie concept sounded very cliche but R Balki's direction was spot on as he showcased the story in a twisted and beautiful way.
We now have a lady Dabangg in Bollywood and that is none other than Sonakshi Sinha. By taking the whole film on her shoulders, the talented actor did not let down the critics and her fans as she did an impressive job in this women-centric action flick. The movie also had filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in a negative role, who was terrific. The plot of the movie was filled with twists and turns which kept the viewers hooked on to it.
This courtroom drama was a nation awakening flick which gave us awareness about several laws which have been made for the safety of women in the nation. Amitabh Bachchan gave a stellar performance in this low-budget yet powerful film. Also, the three leading ladies played by Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang did a stupendous job. The movie was recommended all over the nation as part of learning about self-defence and Indian laws too. The film was also selected to be screened at the United Nations headquarters.
Another woman-centric film threw a light on defying patriarchal norms in Indian villages. Parched revolved around three women played by Radhika Apte, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Surveen Chawla. The movie created some controversy due to a frontal nudity and a sex scene between Radhika and Adil Hussain. It was also screened at several film festivals around the world.
The movie did not work well at the box-office. But Nawazuddin Siddiqui was hell impressive in his role as a lingerie seller who becomes an ace golfer. This Sohail Khan directorial may not have impressed the critics but it willl surely make you laugh with a lot of funny moments. 2ff7e9595c
